Don’t forget the power of spinach!

October 2, 2017

As October begins, cold summer salads might not seem so appealing. Warm lunches and dinners give us more energy and make the days go that little bit quicker. But don’t just cut salad leaves out! They hold so much nutritional value and are so easy to incorporate into autumn and winter meals. Take spinach for example, now in the shadow of kale and chard, as superfoods go spinach should not be forgotten. Here are a few reasons why…

• Rich in iron. Iron is vital for energy and in red blood cells which help transport oxygen around the body.
• Outstanding source of vitamin A, C, K, folic acid, manganese, magnesium, iron and vitamin B2. Vitamin K is important for bone health and spinach is a top source (along with kale, broccoli and green cabbage.)
• Spinach contains anti- inflammatory and anti- cancerous properties from its high levels of phytonutrients, which is also important for healthy eye sight.

Perhaps you are lacking in ideas of how you can use spinach in your winter menus or maybe you’re a little bit bored of eating it all summer. Here are a few ideas for using spinach in warmer dishes.

• Mushroom and spinach pancakes or omelettes
• Creamed spinach with breadcrumb crust
• Aubergines filled with spinach & mushrooms
• Spinach and feta stuffed chicken
• Spinach and lentil soup with bacon
• Chickpea, tomato and spinach curry
• Chilli tomato pasta with spinach
• Spinach, bacon and gorgonzola pasta

Try our fresh and naked unwashed spinach in all these dishes. Unwashed means it stays fresher for longer! Send us photos of your dishes or tag us in Instagram, Facebook and Twitter posts! All our bagged salad leaves are available in Tesco.

Enjoy!

Summer time… Salad time!

June 16, 2017

The sun is finally out.

At F&N, we’ve found that there’s nothing quite like a gorgeous glimpse of sunshine to inspire a person to prepare a lovely, light (or not so light) bowl of salad, or a cheeky side of leaves to go with a summer BBQ.

We would love it if you could share any of your salad recipes with us on twitter, facebook or Instagram. Let’s spread the leafy love!

Feeling a bit stuck for ideas? No worries – what would you say to a Radish, Feta & Baby Leaf Salad?

(Hint: the answer is yes!)

The sunny weather was certainly welcome last Sunday, when we had the pleasure of hosting a number of visitors during the #OpenFarmSunday events.

Open Farm Sunday is an amazing initiative that connects communities with their local growers and spreads the knowledge of where our produce comes from.

We have been proud supporters for over 10 years and will continue to be so. If you did not get a chance to visit any of your local farms this year, give it a try next year!

And just one last thing… Babyleaf thriving in the sunshine!

Getting Ready for the UK Growing Season!

March 1, 2017

As the days start to draw out and the weather is getting warmer, we are now starting to drill our UK leaves on the farms on the Norfolk Coast and down in Sussex.

We will move into UK lettuce from the end of April or beginning of May depending on how much the sun shines over the next few weeks.

Happily we will be able to take the pressure off our farmers in Italy and Spain who have faced some of the most challenging growing conditions in the past 20 years #vegcrisis

We loved this article in The Sun from a few weeks ago.

Back in Cambridgeshire we are all trying to get healthy for the fast approaching summer months as we shed our winter wardrobes, why not check out our chickpea salad using rocket, but works equally was well with any of our F&N mixed leaves.

Two New Mixes Join the F&N Family

May 16, 2016

new mixesThe start of summer, sees the launch two new product lines in Tesco stores this week….

The ultra-healthy super food bag includes a well-balanced mix of pea shoots, baby kale, and spinach, while the spicy mixed leaves contain a carefully selected mix of wasabi rocket, mustard, rocket, and ruby chard.

These exciting new mixes of fresh & naked little leaves create a flavour filled salad bowl or add a little extra to any meal.

We have added portion sizes for all occasions to the packaging to help with meal planning and ultimately reduce waste. This all helps to ensure you get the most from our little leaves.

Reducing waste has been a primary objective of the fresh & naked brand from day one. The unwashed leaves stay fresh for up to three days after opening, allowing you to enjoy a fresh, crisp salad for much longer!

John & Janet

I shall definitely be recommending your product to all my friends - and strangers at the veg section.

Jenny

Great products and the quality looks excellent.

Mark

The rocket is exceptionally good. The cashier in Tesco told me she always bought your products as they were far the best they stocked!

Annette

I eat your leaves on my sandwiches every day. I think they are the first bagged leaves I've ever had that don't taste like chemicals! Keep up the good work!

Neil

I was very impressed with the air in the bags as it helps stop people crushing my leaf before I get them to my sandwich, yum
